The Neat Nest Project

The Neat Nest Project is a dedicated service aimed at supporting and assisting tenants in creating and maintaining cleaner, more organized living spaces. We provide weekly hands on sessions, working collaboratively with tenants to help foster a sense of ownership and pride in their spaces. During our sessions, we teach tenants essential cleaning and organizing skills, offering practical tips for maintaining tidy spaces, and serving as a constant reminder for those who may need an extra push to stay on track. We focus on educating, motivating, and empowering tenants throughout our sessions, affording them the much needed confidence to get through tasks.

History

In fall 2023, D&D Professional Cleaning Services collaborated with Homeward NYC to create this groundbreaking decluttering program, aimed at supporting individuals facing homelessness, trauma, and anxiety who are prone to hoarding behaviors. Recognizing the significant challenges posed by hoarding in terms of health, safety, and overall well-being, this program marks an important step in addressing mental and behavioral health issues within our supportive housing communities.

What sets this program apart is our staff's extensive background in providing trauma-informed services for vulnerable individuals. Leveraging this expertise, we worked closely with Homeward NYC's staff to tailor a comprehensive approach to combat hoarding, foster decluttering, and promote wellness amongst residents.

Vital to the program are one-on-one and small group sessions where residents actively engage in cleaning and organizing their living spaces. These sessions serve as opportunities for residents to confront the underlying reasons behind their hoarding tendencies, addressing feelings of shame and fostering a sense of empowerment in letting go of unnecessary items.

Participants in the program receive essential support in the form of organizational and cleaning supplies to facilitate the maintenance of their apartments. Additionally, personal care items are provided to ensure residents have the resources they need to enhance their overall quality of life.

D&D Professional Cleaning Services is making meaningful strides in improving the living conditions and mental well-being of those we serve. What started as a pilot program at Homeward NYC, is now expanding to work with other supportive housing facilities!
